  • Jassem, an Arab child, entered his classroom on the first day of school in Ohio. "What is your name?" – asked the teacher. "Jassem". . .. – answered the kid. "You are in America now. From now on your name will be Johnny," –replied the teacher. In the evening, Jassem returned home. "How was your day, Jassem?" – asked his mother. "My name is not Jassem. I’m in America and now my name is Johnny. " "Ah, are you ashamed of your name, are you trying to dishonor your parents, your heritage? Shame on you!" – and she beat him.  Then she called his father and he too beat him. The next day Jassem returned to school.. When the teacher saw him with all the bruises she asked, "What happened to you little Johnny"? Well ma'am, 4 hours after I becoming an American, I was attacked by two Arabs at home."

Thank god, same dint happen in India. :)

    Indian Media

  • Pradeep Kumar

  • When I reached melbourne, I thought atleast from television point of view Australia and India will be same. But, I was totally wrong. Here, news channels are only meant for news, not for entertainment like India. India must take action to curb the growing number of such entertainment channels. Most of the times they telecast something which cannot be termed as NEWS, and that story is telecasted as a BREAKING NEWS. I don't know how come all the stories telecasted by Indian News channels are termed as breaking news.

Whenever Indian News channels got something to increase their TRP, they make it a news. But, when there is some serious news, they don't even telecast it or telecast it in flash.

I don't want to highlight all, people know what our media is publishing. For example,
Recently, 12 terrorists killed and a young officer martyred. A total of 5 lines in the leading dailies and a scroll on the news channels. Hard to imagine this is the same media which was crying loud for soldiers just about 6 days back. Soldiers work on days other than 15th and 26th also.

Revisit : In last three years

  • Thursday 18 August 2011
  • Pradeep Kumar

  • Aug, 2008...I started my career in IT industry.....its been three years now...I tried to look back and analysed myself and try to figure out ..What I have learnt in the span of three years...It been a great journey started as a freelancer...a learner....Flex Developer with Metrixline.....Associate Consultant with Oracle Financial Services Software Limited....Staff Consultant with National Australia Bank...

Finally, here in Melbourne...I got some time to look back and revisit those chapters..which I traced in this span of Three years.

    In last three years,

I learnt to operate three critical machines scanner, printer, Xerox.

I learnt to use three high end softwares, Microsoft word, excel, power point.

I learnt to use three great short cuts ..Ctrl+C....Ctrl+V....Ctlr+S...

I learnt to say three very important words for professional life, yes sir, OK sir, i’ll just do that sir.

I learnt to listen anything without any complain...

I learnt to wake up early....to sleep late..and continue to work ….when I really wanted to quit..

    I learnt to face Monday...to fight for 5 days...to wait for Saturday.…

I learnt to work overtime on late nights, saturdays and sundays without any benfits...

I learnt to give reasons to family, friends and relatives for not making phone calls, messages…n mails...I learnt to
celebrate B'day...new year....n win of Indian cricket team, EPL teams...far away from loved ones..

In last one year...people say you learnt...u earned...u enjoyed....

But when I compare me with my self...I just sustained....I just tolerated....i just survived… for bucks or I don't know...

Few more than required to live... that I never demanded. I never dreamed....

For convenience of family..to avoid blame of society....to get tag of employment...I survived...just survived crushing my dreams...

I learnt to rejoice…to be happy….n to smile....when I already knew that I have got the wrong train.

I learnt that life and dreams can never meet...because when they meet both will loose their meaning.

I learnt that dreams are only meant for fairy tales..and bollywood movies....

In last three years...I think I learnt to live..

    Independence Day in Melbourne

  • Sunday 14 August 2011
  • Pradeep Kumar
  • Since, I belongs to a family of soldiers, Independence Day and Republic day is bit important for me. All Indians are pretty attached with their Nation. We call India as mother land. I am very emotional too. Today is 14th August, I am thinking of getting a flag tomorrow to celebrate 15th August over here. Still I am not sure, where I'll get the Tricolor, but, I'll try mys best to get one, or else I paint one and take a print out to celebrate the biggest Indian festival.

Today, I am missing India to celebrate this festival which resembles our victory of freedom. For those who are not aware of this very fact, that India gained Independence from British Rule in 1947, 15 Aug, do realise what we have achieved in just 60 years. American compare us with them, although they are more than 200 years old independent country. :)

Although, we have many internal issues, but today we'll celebrate this festival as an Indian. I am proud to be an Indian. So many diversity in each and every aspect is an added advantage in India. No one can survive with so many religions, castes, states with different cultures, environmental diversities etc. But we still attached to each other with the thread of Nationality.

    Missing India Today. :)

    Happy Independence Day.

Let Anna Hazare's 16th August incident able to succeed in making each Indian's Dream come True.

Manchester United begins it campaign in EPL

  • Pradeep Kumar
  • I am a great fan of soccer. I love playing football, and I am playing this wonderfull game since I was 8 years old. I also represented my state, school, college and won few prizes too. I am not inspired by any famous footballer, but my father is a great footballer. I learned football from my father. Though we don't used to follow any clubs..reason ...to be frank we are not aware of these clubs..When I begin my journey with my father along with him, wherever his regiment is posted, we also shift along with them.

I keep playing soccer in school, with my dad's regiment guys and learned few things. Since this game is not that easy to lear tactics without coach. But I learned this much, so that I can be a part of any team in India. As few years back football was not that popular.

Lot of youngsters in India follow EPL. When I joined college, I also generated EPL following interest. Since, all my friends follow EPL, so whenever they talk about these teams, I used to listen them with lot of concentration. Soon, I also started going out with them into sports bars, recretion room late night, and gradually, I also started fighting with my friends on EPL issues. :P. This makes my support for ManU.

I do watch other matches also, but I don;t want to miss any ManU match. Last year ManU shown a great temperament, and hope they will carry it forward. After beating ManCity in a close encounter, ManU is running high on confidence.

Expecting great ManU and WBA battle. Since I shifted to Melbourne, now i need to wake up at 2 AM for this match...This will be exciting. :) Go, Go ManU Go.

    Anna Hazare's Letter

  • Saturday 13 August 2011
  • Pradeep Kumar
  • I believe in Anna Hazare's dream and it will be fulfilled, today or tomorrow. So, have a look at his letter.

A decisive battle against corruption has begun. We are not against any political party. We want systemic reforms. We want a corruption-free India. After all, what are the people asking for – a strong anti-corruption law which provides for honest and time-bound investigations and trials that result in jail for the guilty, confiscation of embezzled money and their dismissal from service?
Are we asking too much? For two months, we were talking to the government. Government seems unwilling to take even small steps against corruption. Government appears insincere. We have met all prominent political leaders. We have tried everything. What do we do now? When I announced my indefinite fast from 16 August, the government threatened that they would crush us the way they crushed Baba Ramdev's peaceful agitation. Friends, this is a historic opportunity. We can't afford to lose it. We are determined to fight to the end. If they arrest us, we will peacefully offer ourselves. If they use batons and bullets, we will happily lay down our lives but will not leave the place. We will not retaliate. It will be a completely non-violent movement. “If you fast on 16 August, you will be crushed” – this is what they are saying. “We will impose section 144 on Jantar Mantar” – this is what they are thinking. But I say that if every citizen in this country takes off from his work from 16 August, comes on the streets in front of his house, at the crossing, with a tricolor in his hands shouting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and raising slogans against corruption, they will fall short of batons and bullets.
The government may arrest one Anna Hazare but how will they arrest 120 crore Anna Hazares? They may impose section 144 at one Jantar Mantar but will they impose section 144 on the whole country? And let me tell you – the police and army is with us. At traffic signals, policemen stop us, express their support and wish us well; at Raj Ghat, the policemen donated generously for the movement! So, will you take off from your work from 16 August? Will you descend on the streets with me? This year, the country will wait for 16 rather than 15 August.

    In solidarity,
    Anna Hazare
